First time mothers and the urban environment

This project investigated how mothers with preterm babies experience inner London in the first few months after discharge from a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
This was a parent-led research project that brought together my personal experience of being a mother of an ex-preterm baby girl, who was cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of St Thomas’ Hospital and my profession of academic in social science.

It was also a cross-disciplinary project, which brought together the social and medical expertise of the research team and shed new light on what mothers of preterm babies experienced once discharged from the hospital when trying to integrate in urban life.
